Banana Peel Bacon

Servings: 2 | 30 minutes | 150 kcal

This creative recipe is inspired by the vegan community' constant innovation to find plant-based alternatives for popular non-vegan ingredients. The use of banana peel as a meat substitute is a relatively new concept that has gained popularity in recent years.

This Banana Peel Bacon recipe was born out of my curiosity and love for vegan cooking. One day, while peeling a banana for a smoothie, I wondered if I could put the banana peel to good use instead of throwing it away. After some experimenting, the Banana Peel Bacon was born!

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces banana peel
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Scrape off the white inner part of the banana peel.
  2. Slice the peel into thin strips.
  3. Mix soy sauce, maple syrup, smoked paprika, and olive oil in a bowl.
  4. Marinate the banana peel strips in the mixture for about 2 hours.
  5. After marinating, fry the strips in a non-stick pan over medium heat until they become crispy.
  6. Let the banana peel bacon cool down for a bit before serving.
