Pad Thai is a classic Thai dish and is the most popular street food in Thailand. The dish is believed to have been invented during the 1930s in Bangkok, and is now a staple dish all around the world.
Pad Thai has become so popular that in 2012 it was declared the national dish of Thailand!
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 tbsp tamari soy sauce
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp chilli paste
- 300 g rice noodles
- 2 tbsp crushed garlics
- 1 red pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 green pepper, thinly sliced
- 100 g bean sprouts
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
- 2 tbsp chopped peanuts
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the vegetable oil, tamari soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar and chilli paste.
- Cook the rice noodles according to the instructions on the packet. Drain and set aside.
- In a large frying pan, heat the oil and add the crushed garlics. Fry for 1 minute.
- Add the red and green peppers and fry for a further 2 minutes.
- Add the cooked noodles to the pan and pour in the sauce. Stir to combine.
- Add the bean sprouts and cook for a further 2-3 minutes or until the vegetables are cooked through.
- Serve the pad thai topped with fresh coriander and chopped peanuts.
