Chaat is a popular Indian street food that is loved by many. It is typically made with a variety of ingredients such as potatoes, onions, chickpeas, and a variety of chutneys. This recipe puts a unique twist on traditional chaat by incorporating ghee and tea into the mix, creating a warm and satisfying snack or appetizer.
Legend has it that chaat was invented by a royal chef who was asked to create a unique and delicious snack for the king. He combined various ingredients and spices to create what is now known as chaat, and the king loved it so much that he shared it with his subjects, making chaat a popular street food in India.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked green peas
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
- 1/2 cup finely chopped tomatoes
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro leaves
- 1/4 cup mint leaves
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp chaat masala
- 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 cup brewed tea
- Tamarind chutney and green chutney, to taste
- Sev, to garnish
- Pomegranate seeds, to garnish
- Chopped nuts, to garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked green peas, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, cilantro leaves, mint leaves, and green chilies. Mix well.
- Add chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, and salt to the bowl. Mix well to combine.
- In a small saucepan, heat ghee over medium heat until melted.
- Pour the ghee over the chaat mixture and mix well to coat.
- Divide the chaat mixture into individual serving bowls.
- Drizzle some tamarind chutney and green chutney over each serving.
- Pour brewed tea over each bowl, about 1/4 cup per bowl.
- Garnish with sev, pomegranate seeds, and chopped nuts.
