Donauwelle originated in Germany and is named after the Danube river, which flows through several European countries including Germany. It is a popular cake that is often served at coffeehouses and bakeries.

Ingredients
- 150 g butter
- 150 g sugar
- 3 eggs
- 200 g flour
- 50 g cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 100 ml milk
- 1 jar sour cherries
- 1 package vanilla pudding mix
- 500 ml milk
- 150 g dark chocolate
- 150 g white chocolate
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 26cm (10 inch) round baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and mix well.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt together.
- Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Add the vanilla extract and milk, and stir until everything is well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
- Drain the sour cherries, reserving the juice.
- Spread the cherries over the batter.
- In a saucepan, mix the pudding mix with the reserved cherry juice and 500ml of milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the pudding thickens.
- Spread the pudding over the cherries.
- Bake the cake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.
- Melt the dark chocolate and white chocolate separately in two separate bowls, each with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
- Pour the dark chocolate over the cake and spread it evenly. Let it cool and harden for a few minutes.
- Pour the white chocolate over the dark chocolate in a wavy pattern, to create a 'wave' effect. Let the cake cool and harden completely before serving.
